Name: Arkansas Master Address Program (AMAP): GIS Training of Local Address Authorities

Contact: Shelby Johnson, Arkansas Geographic Information Office
Little Rock, AR

Amount: $5000

Years: 2012-2014

Summary

The AMAP is an ongoing effort to compile a statewide physical address point file within the local government business model. To insure that all local addressing authorities are creating and maintaining physical addresses within a standardized GIS environment (and according to the United States Thoroughfare, Landmark, and Postal Address Data Standard, as published by the FGDC) AGIO is tasked with providing formal training for all address authority staff. This training is not software specific but is a well documented and effective means of teaching the basic tasks involved in address maintenance.

Tasks included:

  • Complete the contact database and coordinate with all addressing authorities within the state (approximately 400 local government entities)
  • Provide 10 regional training sessions around the state
  • Provide 6 web based training sessions and publish course materials on digital media
