GIS Intern - City of Olathe

We’re hiring a GIS Intern (Fixed Term / Trainee) with the City of Olathe—an on-site opportunity for students who are excited about maps, data, and using geospatial tools to support real decisions in public service.

If you’re looking to apply what you’re learning in the classroom to real-world projects, you’ll work alongside experienced GIS professionals to help with data collection, spatial analysis, and map creation that supports departments across the City. Our internship program is built to provide meaningful work, mentorship, and networking—so you leave with practical skills and experience you can take into your career.

Pay range: $16.50–$18.00/hour (based on experience)

Location: On-site in Olathe (this is not a remote role)

What you’ll do:

Create maps for internal use and projects using GIS software

Collect, verify, enter, and organize geographic data using established standards

Identify and correct errors/inconsistencies in the enterprise GIS database

Communicate and collaborate with the GIS team and other departments

What we’re looking for:

Entry-level GIS experience and ESRI suite exposure (required)

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office

Solid problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and time management

18+ with a valid driver’s license and favorable driving record

High school diploma/equivalent required; preference for college students in GIS, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Geography, or related programs
