We believe geospatial technology creates value far reaching from ourselves. We are a network of dedicated leaders in the fields of mapmaking, location services, and data development.
WHO WE ARE
The MidAmerica GIS Consortium is a network of dedicated leaders in the field of mapmaking, location services, and data development. We support the growing infrastructure of geospatial data analysis through coordination, networking, outreach and education.
The people who run MAGIC are volunteers who believe in educating those who support this infrastructure so that they understand the industry standards, the ways in which they can ensure data authenticity, and are able to explain the integrated relationships of the tools and services in this realm.
MAGIC represents 9 states in the region. But, we are not limited to just state representation. Our network spans the gamut from local government to academia to private industry.
WHEN WE MEET
We meet on the 4th Thursday of every month via teleconference. All meetings are open - and we welcome participation! Email our MAGIC Consortium Chair, Susan Norton, for more information.
WHAT WE DO
Again, the people who run MAGIC are all volunteers. That's right - we all have full time jobs, families, and more! But, we have such a passion for geospatial that we make this a priority.
Our largest event is the biennial symposium (conference) that we hold in even years. Each symposium is nearly a week long educational event with workshops, sessions, networking, exhibitors and much more. View more info on this year's conference.
But, did you also know that we sponsor our state's conferences? We provide grants for organizations that need assistance. We also have formed lasting partnerships with other national geospatial organizations. We have our pulse on federal initiatives that not only affect our states, but our local and county governments as well. Lastly, we are firm believers that education breeds success - so we work hard to bring you webinars, workshops, and other educational opportunities in our region. We try not to confuse people - but we know we do. MAGIC has 2 administrative groups: Executive Committee, and the Steering Committee.
The Executive Committee consists of 9 people who primarily manage MAGIC operations.
The Steering Committee is a larger group of representatives from all disciplines from the 9 MAGIC states that guide the mission and objectives of MAGIC.
The bulk of the work for MAGIC goes into our biennial conference. The Symposium Committee is responsible for the program, exhibitors, workshops, arrangements, and social aspects of the conference.
Also, we know it gets complicated when we talk about the "Consortium" and the "Symposium". Here it is in a nutshell: when we talk about Symposium we mean the conference. The Consortium is everything else - workshops, webinars, sponsorships, outreach, and other committees.
